In the human body, selenium is found in the highest concentration in tissues and organs such as lymph nodes, liver and viscera, and is present in almost all immune cells, which helps protect the thymus and lymphocyte activity and promotes antibody formation. When the human body lacks selenium, the function of synthesizing immunoglobulins will decrease, and the differentiation and proliferation ability of T lymphocytes will also decrease. Selenium can protect human membrane lipids through GPX-4 to prevent peroxidation, and selenium can improve the transformation ability of spleen cells or blood lymphocytes to mitogen stimulation, thereby promoting the proliferation of immune cells.

Animal experimental results show that selenium deficiency can significantly inhibit the ability of macrophages to kill microorganisms, and appropriate selenium supplementation can significantly enhance the phagocytic activity of macrophages.
